THE WISDOM AND LEADERSHIP SERIES

BUILDING RESILIENCE IN KIDS
A Leadership Program for Educators
and All Organizations Who Serve Our Youth

Our children are the canaries in the coal mine of society. How the adults around them live their lives serves as a road map for kids to find their adult lives. Our kids will be as resilient, tough, kind, determined, curious, empathetic, service minded, and open hearted as we are. We are the leaders in their lives and they are our succession plan for planet earth.

Today more that 70% of American families rely on the income of two people to put a roof over their heads, feed the kids, and care for all family members. Corporations have down sized, expectations on worker time have increased, and a great percentage of parents spend almost every waking moment working with their kids or on their behalf.  Many kids live in multi-generational homes, and even more live in a one parent home where, to make ends meet, the single parent may be working one, two, or even three jobs in an attempt to support their children.

What do these statistics mean for our kids? It means we need quality and affordable day care options, early intervention programs, appropriate after-school programs and communities that are dedicated to contributing to the success of the next generation.

However, what each kid really needs in his or her life is what kids have needed throughout history – one caring adult. It is nice to have two or three caring adults – or even the village. But, it is not necessary. One caring adult can offer protection, nurturance, structure, guidance, and effect positive change in the life of a child.

How does a child succeed? Do they need opportunity or privilege? What is the role of contribution in the life of a child – does purpose matter to an 8 year old?

Be inspired, motivated, and empowered by this content rich, fun, light hearted and passionate presentation by Dr. Teena Cahill – a mother, step mother, and grandmother of nine.
